Autumn Term
St Theresa’s Catholic Primary School
Autumn Term in Year 4
General Information
In our class homework activities will be given out on a Wednesday, they will get two pieces of homework a week, one English and one Maths. Due to the current circumstances, this does not need to be returned to school. Spelling lists will be given out every Tuesday to be learnt by the following Tuesday.
We will also be doing an arithmetic test every Friday in class.
Reading books will be sent home with your child. Please could you ensure your child reads for at least 10 minutes per day preferably to an adult where possible.
We do ask you to provide your child with a water bottle which they can fill in school. These can be bought in school if you wish. The water bottles must go home each day to be washed in hot soapy water.
Foundation Subjects
This term in our art lessons we will be focusing on mosaics which are linked to our history topic on the Romans. We will be looking in depth at Roman life whilst also linking it to Chester.
We will discover all about Sound in Science, concentrating on how vibrations are made, pitch and how the ear works. We will also be looking at internet safety in ICT.
English and Maths
This will be taught as rigorously as usual. This half term we will be looking at Gorilla by Antony Browne. We will be recapping on skills from Year 3 before embarking on new Year 4 skills.
In Maths we will be thinking about mental and written calculations, shape, measure, place value and data handling. There is also a real focus on times tables in Year 4 due to the Government Times Table check in June.
Many Thanks,
Mrs Rhodes
