Year 2 2020 - 2021
Teacher - Mrs McConnell
Teaching Assistant - Mrs Gibbs
Welcome to our school family in Year 2.
Our School day begins at 9.00am and finishes at 3.10pm
What a wonderful start to the new term we have had! All the children have settled into school beautifully and re-established strong relationships between friends and staff. It has been a delight to get to know the children and hear about the wonderful times they have shared at home. Thank you for preparing the children so well for their return and all your support so far.
Here is some important information (Information Update 1):
P.E – Our P.E lesson will be on Thursday.
We will be starting to engage in fuller P.E lessons and so from this week on THURSDAYS the children will be able to come to school in their P.E kit and remain in it all day. They will be required to wear their P.E red t-shirt with their usual jumper or cardigan to keep warm plus dark shorts, joggers or leggings. We will engage in other exercise throughout the week which we can do in normal school uniform.
Reading Books and Reading Folders
I would like to start sending reading books home, to be able to do this the children will require a reading folder to carry their book to and from school. This protects the book whilst helping the children to look after and value books. Please may I ask that these are cleaned/washed regularly so that they remain hygienic. Please can we start this from Monday 14th September. Until then you can still access ‘Oxford Owl’ online. See access arrangements below.
I will send homework home on FRIDAY which will give parents the opportunity to see what we have been learning in school as all the homework will be a consolidation of the work taught that week. There will usually be a spelling and mathematics piece. The work I send will give you, as parents the opportunity to support your child with their learning as their first educators and celebrate how well your child is doing. We will not require you to send it back to school at the moment as it is imperative that we minimise the amount of equipment transferred between school and home. However, the children will be involved in a spelling quiz and any help you can give will support your child in school.
Jumpers, Cardigans and coats
Please bring a jumper or cardigan plus a waterproof coat daily. The windows in our classroom will be open to allow as much fresh air into our classroom as possible (and most possibly our outside door) so please bring a jumper or a cardigan into school even on a sunny day. Autumn/Winter/Spring sunny days can be cold if you are not in the sun. You will also require a waterproof coat everyday as it is my intention to go outside for our timetabled slots regardless of light showers. Fresh air is good for the brain and time away from the classroom will allow time for it to be cleaned and aired!
Please bring a healthy snack for mid-morning play as we may not get our fruit delivery daily. Remember if you bring grapes they must be sliced in quarters.
Thank you for your continued support.
